چکیده

Vasoconstriction is a normal response to a fall in blood volume, but excessive vasoconstriction caused by pressor drugs, while it raises the arterial pressure, is considered to be undesirable because it decreases the already diminished flow through capillaries (1, 2). Pressor drugs are therefore said to be harmful in shock in which there is a diminished blood volume, although many physicians still regard them as beneficial. The aim of the present investigation was to inquire into the benefit or harmfulness of vasoconstriction consequent to pressor therapy by studying the effect of a pressor drug upon the circulation of unanesthetized animals in hemorrhagic shock. Paredrine (p-hydroxy-amethylphenylethylamine hydrobromide) was chosen because of its ability to raise arterial and venous blood pressure solely through vasoconstriction and because of its lack of effect on metabolic activity (3, 4).

Vertebral Heart Score: A Useful Parameter in Determination of Resuscitation Endpoint in Dogs with Hemorrhagic Shock

BACKGROUND: GReliable prediction of patient response to fluid resuscitation is a crucial issue in the management of hemorrhagic shock. OBJECTIVES: This study was designed to investigate vertebral heart score (VHS) variation in fluid resuscitation of hemorrhagic shock patients and the feasibility of this method in determining resuscitation endpoint.  METHODS: VHS values were assessed using previ...

Effect of ATP-MgCl2-hypertonic solution (NaCl5%) administration on hemorrhagic shock

Introduction: In the recent years, effect of hypertonic solution in resuscitation of shock has been shown by clinical and laboratory studies. On the other hand ATP-MgCl2 is used for better tissue perfusion and cardiac output in shock. The aim of this study is evaluation of ATP-MgCl2 with hypertonic solution in resuscitation of hemorrhagic shock. Materials and Methods: In this experimental stud...

Reversal by vasopressin of intractable hypotension in the late phase of hemorrhagic shock.

BACKGROUND Hypovolemic shock of marked severity and duration may progress to cardiovascular collapse unresponsive to volume replacement and drug intervention. On the basis of clinical observations, we investigated the action of vasopressin in an animal model of this condition. METHODS AND RESULTS In 7 dogs, prolonged hemorrhagic shock (mean arterial pressure [MAP] of approximately 40 mm Hg) w...

Clinical Evaluation of the Pressor Activity of Methedrine, Neo-synephrine, Paredrine, and Pholedrine.

Recently a number of pressor drugs of the adrenaline type have come into clinical use for the treatment of low blood pressure following surgical procedures, spinal anxsthesia, circulatory collapse, and surgical and traumatic shock. For therapeutic purposes the ideal pressor drug should be effective by the intramuscular or intravenous route; it should act rapidly; it should produce a sustained e...
